Rambling on and on.
A group of missing hikers were found safely in the mountains of Switzerland over the weekend thanks to the aid of a thermal imaging camera.
Developed by FLIR, the thermal camera is attached to a Swiss Air Force Super Puma Helicopter which was dispatched to find the missing hikers after they’d been reported missing.
Thermal cameras such as these are used by many military vehicles thanks to their useful abilities to effectively see what the human eye cannot by rendering things as thermal images. Thermal cameras work with infrared light to form a thermal reading of an environment and because infrared is invisible to human eyes, this means that it can detect body heat signatures such as those output by the hikers.
Details on exactly how they went missing and where they ended up remain a mystery, but the initial reports of them being missing went out at around 22:00, and they weren’t found until several hours afterwards.
It’s believed nobody was hurt in the incident, and the three hikers are now back safe in Zurich.
